DIFFERENT KIND OF LIFE

It is said that view to things is depending on viewer’s eyes. A yet...
I call you to restore in senses the last time when you felt yourself hungry. Simply – you wanted to eat very, very much.

Have you children? There’s no matter – your own’s or akin. Try to imagine that child lost consciousness feeling the smell of food. I suppose, you shake yourself. Maybe it’s seems like exaggerate. However, this is not especially cynical test but reference to real fact. Could you conceive of that happening in Latvia? Nowadays.

United Nations World Food programme (WFP) in cooperation with the global mail and express company TNT are organizing Walk the World to end child hunger – people in more than 70 countries joined together „to draw attention to the 800 million people in the world who do not have enough to eat despite there being enough food in the world for every man..” as it characterized in TNT homepage.
SIA TNT Latvia and Riga Christian Children Shelter (RCCS) participating the representatives of NGOs are organizingly supporting the Event in Latvia.

On the 21st of May 2006 Walk the World took place in Yurmala. The minimal participation fee was 3 LVL. More than 400 LVL was collected during the walk. A half of total sum – 209,34 LVL had been transfered to Riga Christian Children Shelter, another part of money went to WFP School Feeding Programmes which is realized in underdeveloped countries.

Riga Christian Children Shelter donated resources switch to the needy region of Latvia now – Latgale region. Donated money let to provide the free feeding till the end of the school-time for several schools in Latgale.
Gathering information about schools in Latgale it claryfied that there were a fair number of families in which children did not receive dinner at school because of shortage of money.
There are local governments which are capable of providing resources for feeding of children from low-income families but some local governments have a shortage of money for support like this.
There are situations that unarranged social sphere in the family, between local authorities or legislation hinders to receive the benefit.
There are children who go to school hungry and hungry return at home where the dearth is dominating over life.
There are schools where feeding expenses are only 3 LVL for month.
And there are families which have no possibility to put by even this negligible sum. Different kind of life.

The directors of educational institutions of Latgale were asked to give an information about families in situation like this.
We are receiving the first lists now. It is absolutely obvious that 209.34 LVL are too little sum for needed help.

We address all of us – population and organizations calling to take part in action „For Children of Latgale”! It is a real chance to make better the day of someone. Also health. Also to improve school results a little because it is very hard to learn if your stomach rumbles.

In Oriental world people know for centuries that man need only so much food for one meal how much holds his arms put together making a cup. Let’s compare our arms with child’s arms!

Let’s give a support within our limits – there is no bad support, there is only indiference to succour.
